Dentin has been a lifeguard 3 years total and he was inspired to become a lifeguard because of the time he spent at the pool as a child. He states "when i was old enough to get a job, becoming a lifeguard at the pool was my first choice. It's such an important job and I always knew I could be prepared to keep patrons safe."
Dentin is currently a Sophomore at Stanford University and his favorite part about being a guard is that he loves spending time outdoors in the nice summer weather. He says he enjoys the opportunity to keep people safe while they are in the pool and he loves doing swim lessons and Little Lions and seeing the progress of young swimmers as they grow. Dentin is also an Assistant Coach for Chinook Lion's Swim Team.
He states, one of his most memorable moments while lifeguarding is when lightning struck in Sweet Park. "Thankfully, we had already evacuated the pool, but I think it was the loudest thing I have ever heard!" "The most important thing to remember while you are at the pool is when the lifeguards tell you not to do something, it’s only for your safety and not because we hate fun."
One safety tip he wishes every swimmer knew is that you should always try to throw a life preserver to a struggling swimmer as it could save both your life and theirs in rough water situations.
In his free time, he loves to swim, drive cars, play video games and watch history documentaries. An interesting fact about Dentin is that he has sectoral heterochromia, which makes his right eye partially brown and his left eye green. His favorite snack is Cheeze-Its and his favorite drink is Dr. Pepper.
Be sure to stop by and say hello to Dentin!
